SA vs SL: South Africa's Aiden Markram hits fastest ODI World Cup hundred - Check full list

SA vs SL: South Africa batter Aiden Markram hit the fastest World Cup hundred in his side's first match of the World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

The right-hand batter broke the record of Ireland's Kevin O'Brien. The former cricketer had hit a 50-ball hundred against England in the 2011 World Cup. Markram achieved the massive feat with six on the fifth ball of the 46th over.

Overall, the Aiden Markram hundred was the third in the South African innings in Match 5 of the World Cup 2023. Opener Quinton de Kock scored 100 off 84 balls, while South Africa number three Rassie Van Der Dussen scored 108 runs off 100 balls in the match.

It's the only fourth instance of three players from a team hitting a hundred in a single innings. Overall, the 49-ball hundred from Aiden Markram is the third fastest by a South Africa batter. AB de Villiers hit a 31-ball hundred against West Indies in 2015. Mark Boucher reached the three-figure mark in 44 balls against Zimbabwe in 2006.

The innings from the 29-year-old, who is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL, consisted of 14 fours and three sixes. He got out for 106 off 54 balls. Let's have a look at the fastest hundreds in the ODI World Cup.

South Africa finished their innings at 428/5 - the highest-ever total in the history of World Cup. David Miller, who walked in to bat at six, remained unbeaten on 39 off 21.
