The SA20 Auction 2025,October 1 in Cape Town, saw Durban’s Super Giants making significant strides to enhance their roster. The highlight of the event was the acquisition of Shamar Joseph for R425,000, marking him as the franchise's most expensive signing this season.
This investment reflects the team's ambition to build upon their strong performance as runners-up in the previous edition of the tournament, where they showcased impressive skill and teamwork.

This year’s auction was crucial as teams finalized their squads ahead of the season kick-off on January 9, 2025. The event featured all six franchises competing for top talent among 188 players registered from South Africa and around the world.
The auction format allowed franchises to select players categorized into batters, wicketkeepers, all-rounders, fast bowlers, and spin bowlers, with only 13 slots available for grabs.
In addition to Shamar Joseph, the Super Giants have been proactive in securing talent, already having signed international stars like Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Reece Topley, and uncapped Prenelan Subrayen ahead of the auction. Notably, the Durban franchise, owned by RPSG Group (also owners of Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL), has been focusing on assembling a robust lineup. Among the standout signings, rising star Tristan Stubbs fetched a staggering R9.2 million ($540,000) from Sunrisers Eastern Cape, showcasing the auction's competitive nature.
In addition to Shamar Joseph, the franchise also welcomed rookie CJ King into their ranks. With a dynamic squad ready for the challenges ahead, Durban’s Super Giants are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming SA20 season.
Last season's runners-up, Durban’s Super Giants, have retained key players like Kane Williamson and Chris Woakes. Their strategy to maintain a powerful core includes renowned players such as Marcus Stoinis, who was their wildcard pick last season. Additionally, the team has kept local talents Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, and captain Keshav Maharaj. The Super Giants also continue their partnership with Afghan players Naveen-ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad, alongside local stalwarts Dwaine Pretorius, Jon-Jon Smuts, Wiaan Mulder, Junior Dala, Matthew Breetzke, Jason Smith, and Bryce Parsons.
