Sachin-Sourav should have opened in WC: Dona Ganguly

Varanasi, Apr 6 (UNI) Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly, the better half of stylish Team India batsman Sourav Ganguly, waxed eloquent today saying ''like any other Indian cricket fan it was my wish that Sachin-Sourav should have opened the innings in the World Cup." ''Like any other cricket fan of this cricket crazy nation of a billion, I am utterly dissappointed by Team India's show in the Caribbeans. But, such things happen in sports,'' Ms Ganguly told newspersons here this evening.

She is here to perform at the world famous Sankatmochan Sangeet Samaroh that started at the blast-hit Sankatmochan temple here this evening.

Unable to hide her dejection on India's dismal show in the Cup, Ms Ganguly said ''may be the time-tested opening batting pair of Sourav-Sachin should have been given another chance in the World Cup. Like any other Indian cricket fan this is my belief too,'' she maintained.

Not keen to predict about the cricket future of elegant southpaw, Ms Ganguly said ''Sourav and other seniors have a cricket of an year or two still left in them, But I feel they will not be able to make it to the next World Cup. But only God knows what will happen in future,'' smiled Ms Ganguly.

When queried about Sourav'r role in future Team India line up Ms Ganguly said ''as Sourav's wife I certainly want him to back as captain of the side, but all has to be decided by national cricket selectors and administrators.'' Evading questions pertaining to Greg Chappel-Sachin-Sourav controversy, Ms Ganguly said ''Sourav was recalled to the Men in Blue not due to any pressure but purely based on his performance in domestic cricket.''
