Sachin Tendulkar recalls first special century, will 'pick the bat' again

Bengaluru, Aug 14: Former India captain and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, while celebrating the 25th anniversary of scoring his first international century today, has announced that he will "pick the bat" again.

Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket in 2013 after playing a record 200 Tests, scored his on this day (August 14) in 1990 at Old Trafford against England. Tendulkar added 99 more international hundreds since then and bid adieu to the game breaking several records.

On that day, Tendulkar, at the age of 17 years and 112 days, compiled his maiden Test hundred on way to helping India draw the match.

Set a target of 408 to win, India were struggling at 183/6 when Tendulkar (119 not out in 225 minutes, 189 balls, 17x4) and Manoj Prabhakar (67 not out in 150 minutes, 128 balls, 8x4) batted for more than 2 hours to save the game.

Remembering that day and a "special" century, Tendulkar, now 42, took to Twitter to write, "25 years since the special First International Century at Old Trafford. Will pick the bat today for a special session."

Since morning, many fans have recalled that day of Tendulkar's. Today is also a special day in cricket history as the great Sir Don Bradman was dismissed for a duck at The Oval in his final innings. He needed 4 runs to finish his Test career with an average of 100 but ended with 99.94, scoring 6996 runs in 52 runs.
