Surprise: Sachin Tendulkar, retired, but to continue to bat for India!

New Delhi, Feb 4: Sachin Tendulkar, who is considered as the God of Cricket, has been conferred Bharat Ratna on Tuesday, Feb 4. The cricketer, who is also an MP of Rajya Sabha, retired from all forms of cricket in 2013. However, he surprised everyone saying that he would continue to bat for the country to bring smile on everyone's face.

Sachin along with eminent scientist CNR Rao were honoured with Bharat Ratna by President of India -- Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital.

During a brief ceremony at the Raisina Hill, Sachin said, "I am extremely proud to be born in this nation... I'd like to express my thanks for all the love I've received in this country... I will continue to bat for India and try my best to give the people of India a reason to smile."

The President presented the honours at a brief function at Rashtrapati Bhavan's Durbar Hall attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, UPA Chief Sonia Gandhi, Union ministers, Sachin's wife Anjali, daughter Sara and a host of dignitaries.

An official statement had said Tendulkar has been a true Ambassador of India in the world of sports and his achievements in cricket are unparallelled, the records set by him unmatched, and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by him exemplary.
