Mumbai Indians women started with an emphatic victory in the first match of the WPL against Gujarat Giants. The MI-W won the match by 143 runs.
Although there were some outstanding performances by some renowned players, one Indian bowler caught the eye, and that is Saika Ishaque.
Saika Ishaque picked up four wickets for MI-W and rattled the GUJ-W in their chase. On her WPL debut, Ishaque picked up the wickets of Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Mansi Joshi and Monica Patel, thus decorating a fantastic figure of 4/11 in 3.1 overs.
In the second match against RCB-W, Saika shone again with her excellent bowling. In her four overs, Ishaque gave away just 26 runs and picked up two important wickets. Sophie Devine and Disha Kasat fell to her as the Bengal-born bowler took her wickets tally to 6 and currently holds the Purple Cap in the WPL.
After the match, former India player Parthiv Patel believes Ishaque is not far away from an India call-up.

Saika Ishaque is a left-arm spinner. She has previously played for India A women, Trailblazers in the past. She hails from Kolkata and plays her domestic cricket for Bengal. She plays her club cricket for Kalighat Cricket Club in Kolkata.
