Saim Ayub Released from Pakistan ODI Squad ahead of Tri Series Final, Replacement Named

Pakistan opener Saim Ayub has been released from the national ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series involving England and Sri Lanka after struggling for runs in the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the decision on Monday, October 26, stating that the left-handed batter had requested to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting and regain confidence.

The decision followed a conversation between Ayub and Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson. The team management and national selection committee accepted his request, while Sahibzada Farhan was named as his replacement for the remainder of the competition.

Ayub endured a difficult start to the tri-series, managing scores of just 6, 8 and 7 in his first three innings. His latest dismissal came during Pakistan's dramatic one-wicket victory over England in Lahore on Sunday, when he scored six runs.

In its official statement, the PCB said it respected Ayub's decision and appreciated his honest assessment of his current form.

Sahibzada Farhan Replaces Saim Ayub

Farhan, who was not initially included in Pakistan's ODI tri-series squad, has been drafted in for the remaining fixtures. The right-handed batter recently took over as Pakistan's T20I captain and has also represented the country at the 2026 Asian Games. His inclusion provides Pakistan with another opening option as the side prepares for the closing stages of the competition.

Pakistan Qualify for Tri-Series Final

Pakistan have already secured their place in the final after winning their first three matches of the tournament. They began with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka before defeating England by 87 runs. Their third win came in a thrilling one-wicket contest against England, with Shadab Khan scoring an unbeaten century. Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in their next match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, October 27, before the final on October 31.
