Sameer Rizvi sets Twitter on fire with first-ball six off Rashid Khan on IPL batting debut: 'Wait till he...'

'Sameer Rizvi has arrived in the IPL' an X (formerly Twitter) post from a fan read after the 20-year-old, who was bought for Rs 8.40 crore by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), hit a massive six off Rashid Khan to kick start his IPL career in style.

The Uttar Pradesh batter made his IPL debut in CSK's first match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), however he did not get the opportunity to bat. But on Tuesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands after coming to bat with just ten balls left in the innings.

Facing the first delivery from Rashid Khan after the departure of Shivam Dube on the second ball of the 19th over, Sameer Rizvi leaned forward and slog swept the full length delivery on the pads over backward square leg for a cracking six.

The right-hand batter played a delivery towards deep point for a double on the second delivery he faced, before playing a dot and then dancing down the track to blast the final delivery of the 19th over for a six over long-off.

Sameer Rizvi got out while attempting another six on the third delivery of the 20th over from Mohit Sharma. The veteran pacer bowled a slower yorker on off-stump as the Meerut-born batter blasted the ball towards long-on, but failed to get the elevation behind it.

Rizvi smashed 14 runs off just six balls but played a key role in helping CSK go past 200. Former CSK captain MS Dhoni was elated in the dressing room as the youngster set the Chepauk and Twitter (now X) on fire. Here is how Twitter reacted to Sameer Rizvi's sensational IPL batting debut.

Chennai finished at 206/6 at the end of 20 overs. Shivam Dube smashed 51 runs off 23 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra scored 46 runs each off 36 and 20 balls respectively. s
