Samit Dravid named in India U-19 squad vs Australia, Hardik and Pandya also find place in multi-format series

Samit Dravid, the son of former India coach and captain Rahul Dravid, has found a place in India U-19 squad for three-match one-day series and two four-day matches against Australia U-19. The youngster will be making his India U-19 debut in the one-day series which will kick off from September 21.

The 15-member one-day side will be led by Mohamed Amaan of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), while Soham Patwardhan of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) will lead India U-19 in the four-day matches.

Dravid is currently part of the Mysuru Warriors team playing in the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024. The 18-year-old has scored 82 runs in seven matches at an average of 11.71 and a strike rate of 113.88 ahead of the semi-final against Hubli Tigers on Saturday, August 31.

The right-hand batter has grabbed attention with his exquisite strokeplays. Earlier, he made all the right noises in junior cricket tournaments including the U19 Cooch Behar Trophy for Karnataka.

He scored 362 runs including three fifties in eight matches, and also picked 16 wickets to help Karnataka beat Mumbai in the final which saw him pick two wickets with his medium pace bowling and score 22 runs while batting at number five. In the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Samit scored 122 runs in four innings with a highest score of 87.

Four players from Karnataka including Samit Dravid and Hardik Raj have been named in India U-19 one-day team which will lock horns with visiting Australia U-19 in Puducherry on September 21, 23 and 26.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar has also found a place in the India U-19 squad for four-day matches against Australia U-19. Nitin Pandya from Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has also been named in the squad for the two four-day matches to be played in Chennai from September 30 to October 3, and October 7 to October 10.
