Samit Dravid, the son of legendary Indian cricketer and former head coach Rahul Dravid, recently made headlines after earning his maiden selection in the India Under-19 team.

The young cricketer was picked for the upcoming multi-format series against Australia Under-19, set to commence on September 21 in India, with matches scheduled to take place in Puducherry and Chennai.

This selection marks a significant milestone in Samit's budding career, as he steps into the international arena, carrying the weight of a famous surname. Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Samit shared his excitement and gratitude in a video posted by Star Sports Kannada on X.

"First of all, I am very happy to be selected and thank you for all your wishes. I think I am feeling great, I worked very hard for this moment," he remarked, clearly overjoyed by the recognition.

For any young cricketer, being chosen to represent the nation is a dream come true, and for Samit, it is a testament to his dedication and perseverance in the sport.

Samit's journey to this point has not been without its challenges. He is currently participating in the Maharaja T20 Trophy, where he represents the Mysuru Warriors.

However, his performance in the league has been less than stellar, with only 82 runs from seven innings, averaging 11.71 with a strike rate of 113.88.

Despite these numbers, which include a highest score of 33 against Gulbarga Mystics, Samit's selection in the national under-19 team speaks to his potential and the faith the selectors have in him.

While his recent T20 form might not have been exceptional, Samit's all-round performance in the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023-24 was a clear indicator of his capabilities.

In this domestic tournament, Samit emerged as the fourth-highest run-scorer for Karnataka, accumulating 362 runs across ten matches at an average of 36.20. His efforts included three half-centuries, with a top score of 98, showcasing his consistency and skill as a batsman.

But Samit's contributions were not limited to just his batting. He also shone with the ball, taking 16 wickets from 15 innings at an impressive average of 19.31. His ability to perform with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset to any team.
