For any young cricketer, being chosen to represent the nation is a dream come true, and for Samit, it is a testament to his dedication and perseverance in the sport.
Samit's journey to this point has not been without its challenges. He is currently participating in the Maharaja T20 Trophy, where he represents the Mysuru Warriors.
However, his performance in the league has been less than stellar, with only 82 runs from seven innings, averaging 11.71 with a strike rate of 113.88.
Despite these numbers, which include a highest score of 33 against Gulbarga Mystics, Samit's selection in the national under-19 team speaks to his potential and the faith the selectors have in him.
While his recent T20 form might not have been exceptional, Samit's all-round performance in the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023-24 was a clear indicator of his capabilities.
In this domestic tournament, Samit emerged as the fourth-highest run-scorer for Karnataka, accumulating 362 runs across ten matches at an average of 36.20. His efforts included three half-centuries, with a top score of 98, showcasing his consistency and skill as a batsman.
But Samit's contributions were not limited to just his batting. He also shone with the ball, taking 16 wickets from 15 innings at an impressive average of 19.31. His ability to perform with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset to any team.
Growing up as the son of Rahul Dravid, one of India's most respected cricketers, Samit has naturally been in the spotlight from a young age. There are inevitable comparisons and expectations, but Samit has shown a remarkable ability to focus on his game and carve out his own identity on the field.
Much like his father, Samit has demonstrated a solid technical foundation in his batting, often playing in the top order, where his classical style and temperament have been evident. Additionally, his effectiveness with the ball adds another dimension to his game, making him a promising all-rounder.
