Samit Dravid yet to recover from injury, set to miss 4-day match in Chennai for India U19s

By MyKhel Staff

Samit Dravid is set to remain sidelined due to a knee injury. He missed the one-day series against Australia Under-19s in Puducherry and is unlikely to participate in the upcoming four-day matches in Chennai.

Coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar confirmed Dravid's ongoing recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

"As of now he's at the NCA, recovering from his knee injury," Kanitkar said of Dravid on the eve of India Under-19s first four-dayer against Australia Under-19s at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Despite being 18 years old, Samit will not qualify for the next Under-19 World Cup in 2026. According to ICC rules, players must be under 19 by August 31, 2025, to participate. Samit's birthday on October 11 means he will exceed this age limit.

The all-rounder, who is the son of former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid, came to prominence with some excellent performances in junior level.

VVS Laxman, former India batter and head of the NCA, emphasised player development over merely forming a squad for future tournaments. He stated that providing exposure is more important than just selecting players for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

"So, now we are playing a series against Australia Under-19 and luckily a lot of the guys who may miss out on the next World Cup are part of this series," Laxman said during the inauguration of Bengaluru's new National Cricket Academy, named 'Centre of Excellence'.
