Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka has spoken candidly about former captain KL Rahul's departure from the franchise, dispelling rumors of a rift. Rahul, who led LSG for three seasons, was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
He was subsequently acquired by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore. Appearing on the TRS Podcast, Goenka addressed the situation, calling Rahul "family" and lauding his contribution to the franchise.

"KL Rahul has always been family for me, and he will remain that way," he said. "He captained Lucknow for three years and showed great results during his tenure. My best wishes are with him."
Goenka also emphasized Rahul's honesty and talent. "He is a very honest and decent person, and I wish that everything good happens to him. He is so talented, and I hope his talent shines on the global stage," he added.
The owner's remarks came after an infamous altercation between the two during IPL 2024. Following LSG's crushing 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, cameras captured Goenka having an intense discussion with Rahul, sparking speculation about a strained relationship.
Reflecting on that incident, Goenka said, "There are moments when you have sentiments and there is an expression of those sentiments, but that shouldn't impact the relationship. Mere dil se toh main itna hi kahunga ke izzat bhi hai aur pyaar bhi hai (I have respect and love for him)."
Rahul, too, had acknowledged the controversy in an earlier interview with Star Sports. "Whatever happened wasn't the nicest thing to witness on the field. It affected the team and me, and I felt it was time for a fresh start," Rahul said, adding that he wanted the freedom to explore new opportunities.
During his tenure, Rahul led LSG to the playoffs twice in three seasons. Despite their parting, Goenka remains optimistic about Rahul's future. "I genuinely wish for his success, no matter what happens," he concluded.
