Sanju Samson was recently released from the Indian Asia Cup 2023 squad after KL Rahul regained full fitness and joined the team in Sri Lanka. The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter, who was named as a back up to Rahul in the Asia Cup, was also omitted from the World Cup 2023 squad.
While there may still be a chance for the stumper to return to the national team set up, fans have slammed the decision to overlook Samson for Suryakumar Yadav in the World Cup squad.

Even in the Asia Cup squad, someone like Tilak Varma, who has never played in ODIs, has been preferred alongside Suryakumar over Samson, who has decent stats in his limited appearance.
Fans took to social media questioning Samson's exclusion as they felt he could have at least made it to the Asian Games 2023 squad if he was not in the World Cup plans. While fans express their disappointment, Samson has taken a different route to release his frustration.
After being released from the Asia Cup 2023 squad, Samson has travelled to Dubai, where he can be seen playing golf. The Rajasthan Royals skipper posted a story on his Instagram account last week, indicating that he had been released from the squad.
However, he may once again be asked to link up with the squad in Sri Lanka. While he is away on a trip, Samson may once again find himself in the World Cup plans after Shreyas Iyer suffered a back spasm ahead of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash.
Iyer, who made a return from an injury lay-off in the earlier stages of the Asia Cup, was forced to sit out of the clash against Pakistan with Rahul, another injury returnee, taking his spot in the playing 11.
Iyer missed action from March due to a back issue, but looked fine in his two outings against Pakistan and Nepal in the first round group stage of the Asia Cup. If he fails to recover in the next few games, his spot may be up for grabs and Samson may be considered to fill in.
