Sanju Samson father disheartened to see his son lose Kerala spot, leading to Champions Trophy 2025 snub

By MyKhel Staff

Sanju Samson's father, Samson Viswanath, has expressed his disappointment over his son's exclusion from the Kerala squad, which ultimately led to Sanju being left out of the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Though he refrains from harshly criticising the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), Viswanath's frustration with the selection process is evident. Speaking to Mathrubhumi.com, Viswanath explained that the decision to exclude Sanju from the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) squad was made before the training camp even began.

While he refrains from naming the association directly, he feels his son has been unfairly treated, especially in light of others missing the camp but still being included in the squad.

"We've never raised our voice before, but this time, the situation is different," Viswanath said, referencing the apparent lack of consistency in how the selection criteria were applied. He refrained from personally attacking KCA officials but subtly alluded to certain tensions within the association.

Though expressing frustration, Viswanath is keen on resolving the matter amicably, emphasizing that they are open to discussions if there were any oversights. "We want fairness and for my son to have a fair chance to play," he said, expressing hope that the situation would be addressed calmly.

The incident has caused significant emotional strain, especially with Sanju's exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad following the decision. The situation has sparked some controversy, with public figures like politician Shashi Tharoor lending support to the Samson family, urging the KCA to ensure a more transparent and equitable selection process.

While not directly accusing KCA of malfeasance, Samson Viswanath's comments highlight the emotional toll of the situation, with both he and his son hoping for an opportunity to compete at the highest level without the influence of internal politics.
