Sanju Samson hit's 26-ball 40, gets out in unlucky fashion a day ahead of Asia Cup selection meeting

Sanju Samson played a solid 40-run innings off 26 balls but got out in an unlucky fashion a day ahead of the selection meeting to choose India squad for Asia Cup 2023.

The wicketkeeper-batter was looking set for a big score, hitting five fours and six but dragged a delivery on to the stumps while trying to hammer a ball pitched outside off from spinner Benjamin White through covers.

Sanju Samson is competing for a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and the following World Cup 2023 which kicks off on October 5. There is a toss up between him and Suryakumar Yadav, with the latter having an edge due to his superior record in the T20I format.

Though Samson was in his element at The Village in Dublin during the second T20I against Ireland, he missed on the opportunity to grab the attention of the selectors back to him just ahead of the major announcement.

In the preceding T20I series against west Indies, the Kerala batter registered scores of 12, 7, 13 and 1*. In his two ODI innings against the West Indies he scored 9 and 51.

The latest reports have suggested that Samson is likely to be dropped. It will be interesting to see if his 40-run knock against Ireland just ahead of the selection day will make any impact on the selectors or not.
