Sanju Samson's explosive T20 World Cup 2026 campaign lit up the cricketing world, propelling India to a historic third title and earning him the Player of the Tournament crown.
The Kerala-born batter smashed 321 runs across five innings at an astonishing average of 80.25 and a blistering strike rate of 199.37. His haul featured 27 fours and 24 sixes, making him the tournament's third-highest run-scorer.

After modest starts in his opening games, Samson unleashed fury with an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in the Super Eights, a match that felt like a knockout, followed by twin fireworks of 89 each in the semi-final demolition of England and the final rout of New Zealand by 96 runs.
This triumph marked India as the first side to defend the T20 World Cup title consecutively (after 2024), the first to win on home soil, and the first three-time champions alongside 2007. Samson's heroics, blending elegant strokeplay with raw power, cemented his status as a T20 powerhouse and a beacon for Indian cricket's next generation.
Fresh off this glory, Samson returned home to a hero's welcome. On Monday, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar personally felicitated the star batter at Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, showering him with four symbolic gifts that blended tradition, spirituality, and cricketing legacy.
The Governor draped a shawl over Samson's shoulders in a gesture of respect, then presented a pristine kasavu mundu-a traditional Kerala garment signifying cultural pride-an exquisite idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, the revered deity of the state's iconic temple, and a copy of Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography, Playing It My Way.
The Governor shared the moment on X, captioning: "Hon'ble Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar honoured Shri Sanju Samson at Lok Bhavan. The Governor received Sanju by draping a shawl over him and presented him a kasavu mundu and an idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, and the autobiography of Sachin Tendulkar, 'Playing It My Way'."
Samson's stellar run has sparked widespread celebrations in Kerala, where he's long been a favourite son. Adding to the honours, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) stepped up to felicitate him in a special ceremony, as Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan felicitated the India star while inaugurating a new KCA stadium at Mangalapuram, the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram.
