Who was the India Great mentoring Sanju Samson for Last Two Months? India star reveals after T20 World Cup Crown

By MyKhel Staff

Sanju Samson revealed the person who was mentoring him for the last couple of months after another stellar performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.

Samson played a stunning knock at the Narendra Modi Stadium, as he notched up 89 runs with the bat. The India player provided a scintillating start to the team again.

Sanju Samson reveals the India Great who Mentored Him for Two Months after T20 World Cup Win

Batting first, India posted a mammoth 255/5, the highest ever total in a ICC T20 World Cup final. The charge was led by Sanju Samson, who smashed a breathtaking 89 off 46 balls (including 8 sixes), supported by fiery fifties from Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21) and Ishan Kishan (54 off 25). In response, New Zealand crumbled under pressure, eventually being bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 4/15, but it was Samson who walked away with the Player of the Tournament award after amassing 321 runs across the competition.

Standing as the hero of the nation, an emotional Samson reflected on the years of waiting and disappointment he felt just months prior. Despite being part of the 2024 winning squad, he never got a game-a fire that fuelled his preparation for 2026.

"Feels like a dream. Very happy and grateful. Out of words, out of emotions. To be honest, it started one-two years before. When I was in the 2024 World Cup team where I didn't play, I kept visualising, kept on working and this was exactly what I wanted to do. After the NZ series I was broken, my dreams were completely shattered. And I was thinking what can I do. But God had different plans. And I was rewarded for being brave enough to dream."

The Role of the Greats: Gaining Self-Confidence

The turning point for Samson came when his self-belief hit rock bottom. He revealed that several Indian legends reached out to him, but it was a deep, ongoing mentorship with Sachin Tendulkar that provided the mental clarity needed to dominate the world stage.

"A lot of former players have reached out to me and tried to help me out. For the last couple of months, I have been in constant contact with Sachin sir (Sachin Tendulkar). I reached out to him and had big big conversations with him. Getting a guidance from someone like him, what more can you ask for? I am very grateful for everyone who supported me."

After carrying the weight of the top order and breaking the "opener's curse" that plagued India earlier in the tournament, Samson is in no hurry to look for the next mountain to climb. He is simply savoring the realization of a lifelong goal.

"This itself is very big for me, I want to enjoy it right now and then after a few day will figure out what more to do."

India's victory will forever be remembered as the tournament where Sanju Samson finally transitioned from a "talent" to a "legend," proving that with the right guidance and a brave heart, dreams do come true.
