Sanju Samson Should Be Allowed A Long Patch Of Failures! : Sanjay Manjrekar Makes Bold Remark, Says 'I Will Have Patience'

Sanjay Manjrekar has come to in support of star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who is facing heavy criticism for his underwhelming performance in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England.

Despite high expectations following an impressive run in recent T20Is, Samson has struggled to find form, managing scores of just 26, 5, 3, and 1 in the first four matches of the series.

The Kerala man entered the series on the back of stellar performances, having scored three centuries in his last five T20I outings for India. However, his current slump has led to growing concerns among fans and cricket pundits. Manjrekar, known for his analytical insights, believes that players of Samson's caliber deserve extended backing due to their potential to produce match-winning performances.

"When you are looking at a T20I talent, batting talent, you have got to see when they are playing well what kind of impact they can make, what contribution they can make. And you see with Sanju Samson, when he plays well, he gets an incredible hundred and puts your team in a winning position. So, such people are allowed failures and may be a long patch of failures as well because that's the nature of these as a T20 cricketer, where you can't play yourself, where you have to keep taking those risks that they take, and hopefully there's one innings that just propels him back into form," Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.

He further emphasized the importance of patience when dealing with players like Samson, whose high-risk style is inherent to the T20 format.

"So, with Sanju Samson, I think you should just make sure that he gets as many innings as possible purely because when he gets into form and plays well, he makes it all worth it. If that was another guy who was failing in this fashion and when he got into form just got you 40 or 50, then maybe you would offer him a shorter rope. But I will have a lot of patience with this current version of Sanju Samson," he added.

Since transitioning to the role of an opener for the Men in Blue in T20Is, Samson has amassed 506 runs in 13 matches, including three centuries and a fifty. Notably, he was part of the Indian squad that clinched the T20 World Cup last year, further highlighting his potential to deliver on the big stage.

As India head into the final match of the series, all eyes will be on Samson to rediscover his form and silence his critics with a performance that reflects his true abilities.
