India have posted a mammoth total in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand on Sunday (March 8). Openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson provided a blistering start, racing to 98 runs in the powerplay before Abhishek fell for a quickfire contribution around the 7-over mark.
Samson anchored the innings with flair, combining aggression and consistency to reach a vital score before departing at 203/2 in the 15th over.

Abhishek scored 52 off just 21 balls, and Samson continued his scoring spree with a brilliant 89 runs, thus his third 80+ score in a row in this World Cup. Ishan Kishan also played a stellar knock of 54 runs.
Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav followed in quick succession as Neesham picked up three wickets, but the momentum never dipped. Shivam Dube unleashed carnage in the death overs, smashing an unbeaten cameo with multiple sixes and boundaries, helping India surge past 250.
India posted a mammoth 255/5 in 20 overs, which is the third highest in the history of T20 World Cup. This total, the highest in T20 World Cup final history, highlighted India's batting juggernaut, blending top-order fireworks with middle-order finishing power. New Zealand now face a daunting 256-run chase to claim their maiden T20 World Cup title, while India eye a historic third crown.

A total of 18 sixes were hit in the final by India, as Sanju Samson hit 8 massive maximums. Shivam Dube hit a couple while Ishan Kishan also belted 4 sixes in his stunning half-century. Samson has also sealed his place at the top of the six-hitting charts, as the Kerala-born has struck the maximum 24 times.
Along with that, six Indian batters have hit 10+ sixes in this tournament, the most by any team in any edition of this competition. Apart from that, the Indian team also crossed century mark in sixes, with 106 sixes to the team's name in this World Cup.
