Sanju Samson 'most selfless cricketer': Twitter reacts on his quickfire half-century vs West Indies

By MyKhel Staff

Sanju Samson earned praises on Twitter as the wicketkeeper-batter came out firing on his return to the national side as he fired a half-century during India vs West Indies 2023 3rd ODI at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Tuesday (July 1, 2023).

Sanju Samson played a 41-ball 51 knock after the batter came out to bat in the 23rd over following the departure of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who could only score 8 runs on the day. It was a crucial innings for the 28-year-old cricketer as he scored just 9 runs in 19 balls in the heavy loss in the second ODI.

On Tuesday, however, Samson fired all cylinders once the Rajasthan Royals captain got set in the middle. He played the dominant hand in a 69-run stand with Shubman Gill, who scored 85, for the third wicket. He slammed four sixes and two fours during his firework-filled eight-over stay on the crease.

The innings came after Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan built the foundation for a big total as the left-hand-right-hand combination added 143 runs by the 20th over of the game. Kishan scored 77 runs off 64 balls and fired six fours and a maximum before getting stumped off Romario Shepherd's bowling.

Shubman Gill held on to the other end as an anchor with a knock of 85 runs off 92 balls as the in-form opener scored 11 fours before getting dismissed by Gudakesh Motie. Gill fell in the 39th over with 244 runs on the board for the loss of the fourth wicket.
