Sanju Samson, who was picked in India's ODI squad for the 3-match ODI series against South Africa on Thursday, has been backed by Ab de Villiers to do well in the Rainbow Nation.
Sanju Samson did not find a place in India's ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. He hasn't been included in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa either, however, has been included for the ODI leg of the tour. The first ODI will be played in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17.

AB de Villiers has reckoned that Sanju Samson has the technique to survive in South African conditions. He said that the wicketkeeper-batter also has the ability to do the job behind the stumps.
“It’s great to see him in the team. He will enjoy the South African wickets. He stands tall when he bats. There’s a bit of bounce and movement and all the batters will be tested.
“But someone like Sanju, I think, will do well. And he also gives you an option with the gloves,” De Villiers was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.
Samson was snubbed from India's Asia Cup 2023 squad and did not find a place in India's World Cup 2023 squad as well. The batter has been inducted in the ODI squad, but would be aiming for a place in the T20Is squad. Notably, the T20 World Cup 2024 is approaching and will be played in June.
The 29-year-old made his ODI debut in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. Till date, he has featured in 13 ODI matches and scored 390 runs at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.
