Sarfaraz Khan debut: Father Naushad Khan reveals Suryakumar Yadav's voice which forced him to land in Rajkot

Sarfaraz Khan made his India debut in third Test against England on Thursday (February 15), and ran to his crying father with the treasured blue cap to create a moment which will be remembered for long. Naushad Khan, the father of Sarfaraz Khan, kissed the debut cap, dropped tears of happiness and hugged his son, to inspire and make the entire nation emotional at the same time.

All this could not have been possible had Suryakumar Yadav not sent a voice note to Sarfaraz Khan's father Naushad. In his message, the white-ball superstar recalled his own Test debut, and urged Naushad Khan to be present at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on his son's big day.

Sarfaraz Khan's wife Romana Zahoor was already travelling with the Mumbai batter, and once Suryakumar Yadav sent the voice note, his father also booked a last-moment ticket to Rajkot. Naushad, who also coaches his two sons, was earlier planning to look after his health and help younger son Musheer Khan prepare for Mumbai’s next C.K. Nayudu Trophy match

“When my family was around when I received the Test cap last year in Nagpur, it was a surreal moment for all of us. You have to be there,” Suryakumar said in his voice-note.

“That forced me to alter the plans and we tried to see if all of us can come down. Due to limited flight connectivity to Rajkot, we could get only one plane ticket, but after watching the dream of the family coming true, I feel it was worth coming down at the last minute,” Naushad said.

Suryakumar Yadav plays alongside Sarfaraz Khan for Mumbai in the domestic circuit and has supported the youngster for a long. The number one ranked T20I batter in the world had also congratulated Sarfaraz after his maiden India call up ahead of the second Test of the five-Test series.

Sarfaraz Khan smashed a 48-ball fifty on his debut, but later got run out unfortunately due to Ravindra Jadeja's wrong call. The 26-year-old's 62-run knock off 66 balls consisted of nine fours and a six.
