The IPL 2024 auction is around the corner. The mini-auction is set to take place on December 19 and the teams have already announced their retention list ahead of the auction.
All of the ten franchises have gone on to release some of their squad members. Kolkata Knight Riders have let go of 12 players while most of the other teams have shown the exit door to 8 to 10 players on average.

There are some surprising names that have been retained, while some of the released names also raise eyebrows. Here are five players who could have made to the retention list but were unlucky to find themselves out of the squad-
Sarfaraz Khan cost Delhi Capitals just INR 30 Lakh. The swashbuckling player had a disappointing last season, but to be fair, he only had four opportunities. Sarfaraz scored only 53 runs across those four innings with a modest strike rate, but Delhi Capitals may have lost a gem here.
With just 26 years of age, DC could have given Sarfaraz another chance but the wicketkeeper-batter will be hoping to showcase his talent elsewhere next season.
Kyle Jamieson didn't take part in IPL 2023 as he was injured. Chennai Super Kings have released the Kiwi player this season, who they got for a paltry amount of INR 1 crore.
Jamieson is back to fitness and is available for selection and if he shines elsewhere, it will be a tough pill to swallow for CSK management.
Mandeep Singh had a disappointing outing with Kolkata Knight Riders last season. The batter only played three matches and managed only 14 runs. He has also played just 14 matches since IPL 2020, but Mandeep has done well with Punjab in the domestic season.
He has led Punjab to the Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory and has been one of the key players for them. KKR got the player for just INR 50 lakh and he could have been a decent squad player for them.
Vivrant Sharma was bought for INR 2.6 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Jammu and Kashmir player got only a solitary opportunity to bat where he scored 69 runs.
The 24-year-old has been released by SRH maybe due to his high salary, but Vivrant can emerge as an emerging talent in 2024. He has done well with the ball for J&K in the domestic season and will be hoping to shine for his new team.
