Sarfaraz Khan delivered a match-defining performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, powering Mumbai to victory with a stellar century.

Sarfaraz smashed 157 runs off just 75 balls against Goa, securing an 87-run win that solidified Mumbai's lead in Elite Group C. He credited the openers for navigating early swing, allowing him to unleash sweeps and cuts freely in the List A format's field restrictions.

Teaming with brother Musheer, who set a strong platform, Sarfaraz eyed a shared milestone but fell short of twin tons. Musheer scored 60 runs in the match and missed out on his hundred, and the elder brother sounded disappointed for his younger sibling.

"By the time I came to the crease, Musheer was batting really well. He was the first to reach fifty. I've played plenty of one-dayers and I know how to pace an innings. I have a good sweep and cut, and in this format you can't have more than five fielders out. That gives me freedom to play my shots," Sarfaraz said while speaking to Times of India after the match.

"We have a common dream of scoring hundreds in the same game," he added.

Echoing near-misses in Ranji Trophy, he added, "We were close in the Ranji Trophy this season and again last week, but we both got out in the fifties. Today, Musheer was batting so well, and I thought we could do it. But dreams don't come true that quickly."

Sarfaraz has been in excellent form in domestic cricket, but has been repeatedly snubbed for India. Although he has played in Tests, questions have been asked over his limited-overs omissions. And after the recent century against Goa, he has made an even stronger case for himself ahead of the selection for the New Zealand ODI series.
