New Delhi, July 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court will decide tomorrow whether Doordarshan can be permitted to telecast live the upcoming cricket tri-series to be played in Sri Lanka next month involving India and South Africa apart from the hosts.
The application filed by Taj Television Pvt. Ltd., owners of Sharjah-based TEN Sports channel seeking directions to Prasar Bharati not to interfere with the live feed of the one day series for which the TEN Sports has got the exclusvie rights, shall come up for hearing tomorrow before a bench headed by Mr. Justice Ashok Bhan.
The application filed through P H Parekh, advocate, has contended that the applicant shall suffer a huge loss if its exclusive right to live telecast the series are interferred with under an allegedly illegal government guidelines making it compulsory to share the feed with Doordarshan in public interest.
The applicant channel is, however, prepared to share the feed provided Parsar Bharati is prepared to make up for the losses TEN Sports is going to suffer in terms of loss of revenue of advertisement due to reduction of viewership.
Earlier, during the India-West Indies series, Prasar Bharati had refused to pay the money for sharing the feed and the series was exclusively shown live by TEN Sports.
TEN Sports had purchased the live telecast rights of the tri-series for over Rs. 100 crores.
