Sehwag's allround show helps ONGC win Hot Weather tournament
New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) Virender Sehwag hit a quickfire 35 and snapped up two wicket, to help ONGC win the final of DDCA Hot Weather Cricket Tournament beating Indian Airlines by 76 runs at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium here today.
After ONGC won the toss and elected to bat first, the opening partnership between captain Rizwan Shamshad and Sehwag yielded 49 runs, with the Delhi bomber dominating the proceedings by hitting 35 runs off 23 balls, including four hits to the fence. Thereafter, Rizwan (67) alongwith Sandeep Sharma (22), Radhey Shyam Gupta(27) and Mahesh Rawat (37), took ONGC to 215 for nine.
For Indian Airlines (IA), Ajit Chandela took three wickets and Vineet Jain scalped two wickets.
In reply, IA never looked threatening enough as they consistently lost wickets at regular intervals. The only player who came up with a respectable score was Shafiq Khan, who nothed up 60 runs that included four boundaries.
For ONGC Team India players Ishant Sharma, Sehwag and Rahul Sanghvi took two wickets each as Indian Airlines were bowled out for 139 runs in 32.1 overs.
This win gives ONGC its fourth title of the season after winning Omnath Sood Cricket tournament, Raghuvir Singh Cricket tournament and Gaoswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket tournament. Also, ONGC has now beaten Indian Airlines thrice in the last 23 days. First in the Raghuvir Singh Cricket tournament final on june 2, then in the Gaoswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket tournament on June 3 and today again to win DDCA Hot Weather Cricket Tournament.
ONGC's skipper Rizwan Shamshad was declared the Man of the Match for his well-compiled 67 runs.
