Senator Baig wants audit of PCB accounts
Lahore, June 8 (UNI) Training his guns on PCB Chief Nasim Ashraf, Senator Enver Baig has written a letter to chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly to hold a complete financial audit of the Board for the period beginning 1999.
''There are numerous voices accusing the PCB of misusing funds at the name of promoting cricket. If the same trend continues, I am afraid the PCB coffers will be depleted to nil. Therefore, I request the accounts of the PCB since July 1999 should be scrutinised and audited by the Auditor General Pakistan,'' Baig had written in the letter.
Baig, who is a member of Senate Standing Committee on Sports, also pointed out that ''the PCB is being arbitrarily run by the chairman of the ad-hoc committee and during Senate's Standing Committee meetings much has been talked about the grave misuse of the Board's funds.'' ''It is therefore requested in public interest that necessary action may kindly be taken,'' Baig added.
Baig is a staunch critic of ad-hoc system in Pakistan cricket and believes PCB chairman Ashraf doesn't have the credentials to run the Board professionally.
Ashraf has threatened to file a law suit against the Senator for alleged indecent remarks used against him. Baig, in turn, had brought a privilege motion in the Senate against Ashraf's outburst against him in a press conference in which the PCB chairman called him a 'sick mind'.
