Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi on Friday emulated his father-in-law Shahid Afridi's untouched ODI World Cup record for Pakistan. In the World Cup 2023 match 18 against Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Shaheen Afridi picked five wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs.
Australia were cruising towards a 400-plus total when Shaheen broke the 259-run partnership between David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Shaheen dismissed Marsh who scored 121 off 108. Glenn Maxwell got out to a golden duck to the star pacer who also picked the wickets of Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

Shaheen Afridi is now only the second Pakistan player after Shahid Afridi to have two five-wicket hauls in ODI World Cup. The left-arm pacer picked six wickets for 35 runs against Bangladesh in 2019 Wrld Cup.
Shaheen Afridi's bowling figures of 5/54 is the best by any bowler in the ongoing World Cup 2023. He pipped New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner's figures of 5/89 against Netherlands. India's Jasprit Bumrah is third on the list. He picked four wickets for 39 runs against Afghanistan in Delhi. Reece Topley ( 4/43 against the Netherlands) and Adam Zampa (4/47 against Sri Lanka) is fourth and fifth on the list respectively.
The terrific performance from Shaheen Afridi comes on a day when his partner Haris Rauf was hammered for 83 runs in eight overs. Usama Mir, who replaced Shadab Khan, was hit for 82 runs in nine overs.
The second-highest opening partnership in the World Cup 2023 between Warner (163) and Marsh helped Australia finish at 367/9 - the highest by any team against Pakistan in ODI World Cup. Pakistan won their first two matches before losing to India on Saturday.
