Shakib Al Hasan grabs fan by neck, attempts slap during club match in Bangladesh, Video goes Viral

By MyKhel Staff

Shakib Al Hasan has made himself at the centre of controversy after assaulting a fan after he wanted a selfie with the star player.

Known for his vast experience in international cricket, with 67 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 117 T20Is under his belt since 2006, Shakib has been a pivotal player for Bangladesh.

Despite his status in ODIs as the world's number two all-rounder and third in Tests, a recent event has cast a shadow over his reputation.

During a moment caught on video at a Dhaka Premier League match, Shakib was seen in a physical altercation with a fan who sought a selfie with him. The incident occurred before the toss for a game where Shakib's team, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, was playing against Prime Bank Cricket Club.

Reportedly, the fan's insistence on taking selfies angered Shakib, leading to the cricketer grabbing the fan by the neck. The player also attempted to slap the fan, but didn't act on it. The video got captured and the clip has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

People across the cricketing fraternity have opinionated on the incident, with some criticizing the all-rounder for his behaviour. Another section tried to defend the Bangladesh star stating the fan's continuous persuasion led the player losing his composure.

Aside from this controversy, Shakib has expressed concerns regarding Bangladesh's preparations for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. In his statement on May 5, he reflected on the team's past performance and stressed the necessity of winning three matches in the first round to surpass their previous World Cup achievements.

He highlighted the benefits and limitations of playing a series against the USA to acclimate to the conditions where the next World Cup will be held. Shakib pointed out that while the series against the USA would help the team get used to the conditions, it still falls short of ideal preparation for the global tournament.
