Shikhar Dhawan's comeback date confirmed after Punjab Kings captain misses match against Kolkata Knight Riders

Shikhar Dhawan did not take the field against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, April 26 as Sam Curran came out for the toss once again at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Punjab Kings captain last played on April 9 when Punjab Kings took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the new PCA stadium in Mullanpur. He injured his right shoulder in the same match while taking a catch.

However, in a good news for the fans of the star opener, he is very likely to make a comeback for Punjab Kings in the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

"He was in form and we really missed his batting services. We saw him batting yesterday, going through the nets and everything. He is on the road to recovery. Hopefully, he should be fit for the next game (against CSK)," Joshi said ahead of the KKR clash.

Punjab Kings have lost each of their last three matches in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan. After winning just two of their first eight games. Punjab are reeling at ninth-spot in the 10-team IPL 2024 points table.

In the match against KKR, Punjab brought back Jonny Bairstow in place of all-rounder Liam Livingstone. Bairstow have managed to score just 96 runs from six matches this season.

Punjab will play back-to-back matches against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings. After facing them at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, May 1, they will face Ruturaj Gaikwad's side once again at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on May 5.
