Shikhar Dhawan Threatens Legal Action Against World T20 Continent Cup, Reason Revealed

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has threatened legal action against the organisers of the World T20 Continent Cup after alleging that his name was included in the tournament's list of participants without his knowledge or permission.

Dhawan addressed the controversy through a statement on social media platform X on Tuesday, October 13, making it clear that he had not authorised his participation in the competition.

Shikhar Dhawan Threatens Legal Action Against World T20 Continent Cup Reason Revealed

"I have come across my name as a participant in the World T20 Continent Cup. My name has been used by the organisers without my knowledge or permission, and my team will be taking the appropriate legal steps to address this," Dhawan wrote.

The former India international also urged the media and his supporters not to rely on announcements that had not been authorised by him, while thanking fans for their continued support.

Shikhar Dhawan's Name Listed In Asia Warriors Squad

The controversy emerged after Dhawan was reportedly named in the Asia Warriors squad for the upcoming World T20 Continent Cup. The team was advertised as featuring several former international cricketers, including players from India and Pakistan.

Former India players Rahul Sharma, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Abhimanyu Mithun were also reportedly included in the squad. Pakistan internationals Sohail Tanvir and Iftikhar Ahmed were among the other names associated with the Asia Warriors lineup.

Dhawan's reported inclusion attracted attention because of the proposed cross-border composition of the team. However, his objection is specifically centred on the alleged unauthorised use of his name and the absence of his consent to participate.

Following Dhawan's statement, the tournament organisers announced that he would not be part of the Asia Warriors squad, citing scheduling conflicts and certain technical considerations. The announcement followed the former opener's public denial of any authorised participation.

What Is The World T20 Continent Cup?

The World T20 Continent Cup is a proposed franchise-based T20 competition scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in December 2026. The tournament is designed to bring together former international cricketers through teams representing different continents.

The four advertised teams are Asia Warriors, Africa Lions, Europe Champions and North America Eagles. According to reports, the competition is expected to feature nine T20 matches involving more than 60 former international cricketers.

The organisers made an announcement that Dhawan would not participate, clarifying his immediate status for the competition, although the former India opener has separately indicated that his team will pursue appropriate legal steps.
