In a heart-stopping finale at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, Shimron Hetmyer pulled off one of the most dramatic finishes of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, launching Kieron Pollard for a six over deep fine leg to seal a memorable win for the Seattle Orcas against MI New York.
Needing six runs off the final delivery, the West Indian left-hander rose to the occasion, sending the ball soaring into the stands and sparking wild celebrations. The moment capped off a nerve-wracking last over where MI captain Nicholas Pooran had entrusted Pollard to defend nine runs.

Jessy Singh, batting at No. 9, struggled to rotate strike early in the over, leaving Hetmyer with all the pressure on his shoulders. After managing just two runs off the fourth and fifth balls, Hetmyer needed a maximum off the last-and delivered in style.
Coming to the crease with the Orcas struggling at 107/4 in the eighth over while chasing a daunting 238-built on Pooran's century and Tajinder Dhillon's 95-Hetmyer produced a match-winning knock. As wickets tumbled around him, including that of Heinrich Klaasen shortly after his arrival, the left-hander took charge, shielding the tail and keeping the asking rate within reach.
Despite battling a minor injury, Hetmyer picked his moments wisely. He took apart the bowling in the 16th and 19th overs, scoring 18 and 23 runs respectively, setting up a dramatic finish.
Speaking after the match, a visibly emotional Hetmyer said after the match. "This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall and I'm still grimacing over the last game where we couldn't cross the line." He added, "Today is one of those days, where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible. That (injury) actually gave me a little bit of help, because I didn't want to run much."
The win not only gave the Orcas their first win of the season but also snapped a 10-game losing streak, in the most spectacular fashion imaginable.
