Shivam Dube aiming to win World Cup for India with 'advice from MS Bhaiya' - 'Dhoni says the time will come'

India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder has opened up on the support he has got from his IPL franchise which has ultimately helped him get back in the reckoning.

The 30-year-old, who has been named in India's Asian Games 2023 squad, made his comeback for the Men in Blue in the 3-match T20I series against Ireland. The matches were his first for India in over three years. He did not get a chance to bat in the first T20I but scored 22 not out runs off 16 balls in the second. The third match was abandoned due to rain.

The Mumbai cricketer said the MS Dhoni-led CSK management gave him the much-needed backing which gave him confidence to play his best game. Dube, who scored 418 runs in 16 matches at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 158.33, was present on the crease when his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja won the IPL 2023 final with a four on the last ball against Gujarat Titans (GT).

“First of all, hard work is essential, but after that, you need confidence in the match. You get that from your captain, team management, and your teammates who believe that this guy can do it, that he has the capability. I think I got all three of those things. I was told to play freely, that I had to play my game, and my role was to maintain a good strike rate,"

"I didn't think about like – 'last year I scored 300, so this year I'll aim for 600’. I knew I should aim for 350-400 because I was getting the kind of batting opportunities I wanted. The CSK management is very supportive; they keep the roles clear, give confidence, and provide good practice, so everything fell into place.” Shivam Dube said in a conversation on JioCinema’s daily show '#AAKASHVANI,’ hosted by Aakash Chopra.

Dube's next 5 years plan: Win World Cup for India

Further, Dube said he wishes to win the world cup for India in the next five years before revealing that his CSK captain MS Dhoni expresses confidence in him and says that he would achieve what he wishes one day.

“My goal is to play for India, to represent the country, and to win the World Cup for India. The direction in which I am headed is the right one. And I do seek advice from MS Bhaiya about how he used to play, and he always tells me that the graph will go up slowly, everything will fall into place, and the time will come," Dube said.

With the T20 World Cup scheduled next year in the West Indies and the USA, Shivam Dube would be looking to perform on a consistent basis to make his case stronger to break into India's main T20I squad.
