Hyderabad, Dec 2: Shivam Dube marked a triumphant return to T20 cricket with a scintillating performance in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, powering Mumbai to a commanding total against Services.
Dube - the left-handed swashbuckler who was making his comeback after July 2024 - announced his return in style, smashing seven sixes en route to a blistering 71 off 35 balls, maintaining a staggering strike rate of over 191.

Dube's knock came at a crucial juncture when Mumbai were struggling at 60/3. Joining forces with India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, Dube took charge of the innings, stitching a match-defining 130-run partnership in just 11 overs. While Suryakumar contributed a solid 70 runs, it was Dube's power-packed innings that stole the spotlight.
Dube's recent exploits are a continuation of his impressive performances in the IPL. His debut season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) saw him amass 289 runs at a strike rate of 156.21. He followed it up with 418 runs at 158.33 in 2023 and 396 runs at 162.30 in 2024, earning him a spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
Though Dube couldn't make a significant impact during the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian management showed faith in him. He was given opportunities in the subsequent series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Against Zimbabwe, Dube showcased his hitting prowess with a 26-run cameo off just two overs, but his form dipped in the Sri Lanka series, leading to a brief hiatus from the T20 format.
Despite his inconsistent form, CSK's trust in Dube remains unwavering. Retained for a hefty ₹12 crore, Dube continues to hone his skills under the mentorship of MS Dhoni, one of India's finest finishers. With Dhoni's guidance, Dube looks to elevate his game further and cement his place in India's T20 setup.
As IPL 2025 approaches, Dube's form will be under the spotlight. With CSK banking on his finishing abilities, he could play a pivotal role in their title aspirations. His explosive return has undoubtedly reignited hopes for a successful season ahead, both for Mumbai and CSK. With the IPL and international opportunities on the horizon, Dube's resurgence could be key to India's future T20 ambitions.
