India captain Rohit Sharma has said that the performances of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will be closely monitored as they return from a long injury layoff ahead of the World Cup 2023.
He further revealed that the selection meeting for the Asia Cup 2023 which kicks off from August 30 will be taking place in a few days, adding that no player gets a confirmed spot and will have to give it their best to find a place in the squad.

"Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know, I had to undergo surgery once and how it feels afterwards, it is quite tough. We have to see how they respond, what they do,” Rohit Sharma said on the sidelines of a La Liga event in Mumbai.
"The selection (meeting) will be there in a few days, we will have a good debate about what we can do. But honestly, nobody is an automatic choice - they all have to fight for the spot - everyone has to, whether it is a top spot or a bottom spot,” he stated.
"We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is the right combination for us to go in the World Cup but before we have the Asia Cup," he added.
The Indian team management is racing against time as of now to fix their middle-order conundrum. The poor run of Suryakumar Yadav has added to the problems of the Men in Blue. India will play their first match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan on September 2.
