India batter Shreyas Iyer has opened up on the contract snub which saw him left out of the BCCI central contract for this year. And the batter has stated that winning the IPL was 'an apt answer' to his critics.
Shreyas Iyer had a superb World Cup 2023 for India, where the batter was one of the key players. He was excellent across the tournament amassing 530 runs, which included 3 fifties and 2 centuries.

After the World Cup, the player didn't play any single match in the South Africa or the Afghanistan series citing injuries. Iyer had been struggling with a back problem for a long time and it was thought to have recurred.
He got chances in the England Test series earlier this year but was dropped after the first couple of Tests. And within days, the Mumbai batter was omitted from BCCI's central contract.
The player has recently opened up on the incident and has said that 'lack of communication' led to his snub from the central contract. Through his YouTube channel, the KKR captain also said that he was desperate to win the IPL and the Ranji Trophy as it would have been the perfect answer to all the critics.
"I had a tremendous World Cup. I wanted to take a break after that, work on my body & build my strength around certain areas - due to lack of communication, there were some decisions that didn't go in my favour. At the end of the day the bat is always going to be in my hand & it's upon me to perform and win trophies. I knew that once I won the Ranji Trophy and the IPL, that will be an apt answer to whatever happened in the past. Thankfully, everything fell in the right place. We have a lot more trophies to win in the future," Iyer said on his YT channel.
The player recently spoke about his struggle with injuries right after the ODI World Cup. The KKR captain was asked ahead of the IPL 2024 Final where he opened up on difficulties playing the longer format of the game and claimed that despite raising concern, no one agreed to his issues.
"Basically I was struggling after the ODI World Cup in terms of longer format. And when I raised my concern no one was agreeing to it. But at the same time, the competition is with myself," Iyer said at that time.
The 30-year-old won the IPL 2024 with the Knight Riders and led the team brilliantly as KKR ended their decade-long wait for the title. He has been one of the top-notch players for India in the last few years and will be hoping for a comeback to the India team soon.
