Shubman Gill Becomes Second-Fastest To Reach 3,000 ODI Runs After Hashim Amla

Shubman Gill etched his name into the leaderboards by becoming the second-fastest batter ever to reach 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals. The Indian captain achieved the milestone in just 62 innings during the opening ODI against Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, underlining his remarkable consistency and rapid rise in the format.

Coming into the match needing 47 runs, Gill showcased his trademark fluency and attacking intent. He raced to 57 off just 40 deliveries, bringing up a brisk half-century in only 37 balls. His innings not only guided India to a strong position but also sealed a major personal landmark, placing him among the elite names in world cricket.

Shubman Gill Becomes Second-Fastest To 3,000 Runs In ODI

Gill now sits second on the all-time list for the fastest to 3,000 ODI runs, behind only South Africa's Hashim Amla, who reached the mark in 57 innings. The Indian star leapfrogged several modern greats, including Shai Hope, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, all of whom took more innings to reach the milestone. This achievement further highlights Gill's dominance in the 50-over format at a relatively early stage of his career.

In doing so, Gill also rewrote Indian cricket history by becoming the fastest Indian to 3,000 ODI runs. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan's previous record of 72 innings by a significant margin of 10 innings. Even Virat Kohli, widely regarded as one of the greatest ODI batters, reached the milestone in 75 innings, making Gill's feat even more impressive.

This latest milestone adds to Gill's growing list of records in ODI cricket. He already holds the distinction of being the fastest player in the world to reach both 2,000 runs in 38 innings and 2,500 runs in 50 innings. His ability to combine consistency with aggressive stroke play has made him a key pillar of India's batting lineup.

At just 26, Gill's trajectory suggests that many more records could follow. With the ODI World Cup cycle underway, his form and leadership will be crucial for India's ambitions on the global stage.
