Gujarat Titans (GT) made a significant announcement on Monday, appointing Indian batsman Shubman Gill as the captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This decision followed the return of Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians (MI).

The franchise emphasized Gill's leadership role in a team characterized by a unique blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm, a defining feature of the Gujarat Titans.

Shubman Gill, an accomplished batter, boasts an impressive track record, accumulating 1373 runs in 33 innings at an average of 47.34, featuring three centuries and eight half-centuries.

His standout performance in the previous season was extraordinary, amassing 890 runs in 17 matches with an average of 59.33, securing three centuries and four fifties. Gill's outstanding contributions played a pivotal role in Gujarat Titans' remarkable journey since their IPL debut.

In particular, Gill's explosive innings of 129 runs in just 60 balls against Mumbai Indians during the IPL playoffs last season stood out as the highest individual score by a batter in the playoffs.

In response to his appointment as captain, Shubman Gill expressed his delight and pride, thanking the franchise for entrusting him with the responsibility. He eagerly anticipates leading the team with their distinctive and exciting style of cricket.

Reflecting on the team's recent history, Gujarat Titans, after clinching the IPL title in their debut season in 2022, reached the finals in the subsequent season but faced defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Gill's remarkable form is evident in his achievement of scoring three centuries in the last IPL, a feat surpassed by only Virat Kohli (2016) and Jos Buttler (2022), who each scored four centuries in a single IPL season.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, a pivotal figure for Gujarat Titans in their two years of existence, has returned to Mumbai Indians through a trade.

In their debut season in 2022, Pandya played a leading role in securing the IPL trophy, and in the following season, Gujarat Titans finished as runners-up after a thrilling final that concluded with a last-ball defeat.
