Shubman Gill's struggles in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy persisted as he faltered once again in the first innings of the Gabba Test. The promising Indian batter was sent back to the pavilion for merely a run in the third over, falling to Mitchell Starc.
His dismissal performance has sparked concerns regarding his form and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure situations, specially in away conditions.

Just a few years back, the Gujarat Titans captain was hailed as the next big thing in world cricket with his consistent performance but recently in the last one year, he has clearly been a shadow of his past and with inconsistencies creeping in, he needs to buckle up and pull up his socks.
If we look at the last 10 innings abroad, which includes 5 Tests, the 25-year-old has scored a total of 164 runs in Australia, South Africa, West Indies and England with a highest score of just 31 runs. Out of the 5 Test hundreds he has, only one came outside in India against Bangladesh in Bangladesh back in 2022.

The young batter do have quite a few good knocks at home but he has failed to live up to the expectations outside the nation. His main weakness is his tendency to go for an aggressive shot, like a hook or big drive, early in his innings. While it looks spectacular when executed well, it carries high risk, especially on pitches with bounce and swing.
Gill now has up to four innings left to turn around his 2024-25 Australia tour, with Indian fans eagerly awaiting a standout performance from the young batter.
