Will Shubman Gill Play Today? Here's What the India Captain Said After His Injury Scare
India captain Shubman Gill retired hurt during his match-winning knock in the first ODI against England after suffering cramps in his right leg while batting at Edgbaston.
Gill walked off unbeaten on 80 as India went on to complete a six-wicket victory, but later confirmed the issue was not a serious injury and expects to be fit for the second ODI.

Why did Shubman Gill retire hurt?
Gill appeared in discomfort during the 26th over of India's chase while facing Josh Tongue.
After being beaten outside the off stump by a full delivery, the opener removed his gloves, crouched on the pitch and clutched the back of his right leg before signalling that he could not continue.
He retired hurt on 80 from 75 deliveries after sharing a century partnership with Shreyas Iyer that put India in control of the chase.
Washington Sundar replaced him at the crease.
Shubman Gill confirms it was only cramp
Speaking after India's victory, Gill clarified that he had suffered severe cramps rather than a muscle injury.
The India captain indicated that the problem was not serious and said he expects to be fully fit for the second ODI against England in Cardiff.
India held their nerve despite Gill's exit
England briefly fought back after Gill retired hurt.
Shreyas Iyer was run out in the following over after Harry Brook produced a direct hit, reducing India to four wickets down.
However, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel steadied the chase with an unbeaten 102-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Axar finished unbeaten on 57, while Sundar remained 52 not out as India chased down 259 with six wickets in hand.
India end Edgbaston hoodoo
The victory ended England's 12-year unbeaten ODI run at Edgbaston and gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Earlier, England recovered from a collapse thanks to a 121-run seventh-wicket partnership between Joe Root and Liam Dawson before being bowled out for 258.
Axar Patel starred with the ball as well, claiming four wickets to earn the Player of the Match award.
