Shubman Gill jumps 36 places in latest ICC T20I rankings for batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal closes in on Rizwan

Shubman Gill, who was the leading run-scorer in the recently-concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe, jumped 36 places to 37th spot in the latest T20I rankings for batters. Gill, the captain of the young India squad on the tour, scored 170 runs in five matches at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 125.93.

His opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal missed the first two games as he arrived lated in Zimbabwe, but ended up scoring 141 runs in just three matches at an average of 70.50 and a strike rate of 165.88.

Jaiswal jumped four places to the sixth spot. He was in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad but did not get to play any matches. The 22-year-old southpaw is just three points behind fifth-placed Mohammed Rizwan of Pakistan.

Babar Azam is ranked fourth, while Australia's Travis Head, India's Suryakumar Yadav and England's Phil Salt are occupying the first three spots respectively. Jos Buttler dropped a place to seventh which was previously occupied by India's Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is ranked eighth now.

Retired India legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have dropped five and eight places respectively to 42nd and 51st spots respectively.

Talking about the bowlers, Adil Rashid continues to be the number ranked T20I bowler in the world. He is followed by South Africa's Anrich Nortje, Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, Afghanistan's Rashid Khan and Australia's Josh Hazlewood. Axar Patel, the top-ranked India T20I bowler, has dropped four places to rank 13. Among Indians, Kuldeep Yadav is behind him at 15th
