Shubman Gill goes to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for help after struggles in Sri Lanka, pictures surface

Shubman Gill reached out for help from Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the deciding third ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, August 7.

The vice-captain of the Indian cricket team has struggled in Sri Lanka and failed to capitalise on his starts. His scoring rate has also been under-whelming. Gill was not only named ahead of the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma in the preceding series, but also made Suryakumar Yadav's deputy.

The right-hand batter scored 34 off 16 in the first T20I before registering scores before missing the third second ODI due to back spasm and then scoring 39 off 37 in the third T20I.

In the first ODI, the 24-year-old Punjab batter scored 16 off 35 as his opening partner scored 58 off 47. The second ODI saw, Shubman Gill score 35 off 44. Rohit Sharma smashed a 29-ball fifty in the match.

Shubman Gill's form becomes crucial especially when batters coming below have failed to contribute in the island nation. Despite good opening partnerships, the visitors have struggled in the ODI series. They slipped to 230 all-out from 75/0 in the first game, and from 87/0 to 208 all-out in the second.

At a time when Shubman Gill is being given bigger roles and projected as the next India captain, the player himself is making sure to be amongst runs and win matches for India.

On the eve of the third and final ODI which India need to win to pull off a 1-1 draw after the tied first match, Shubman Gill had two long chats with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Journalist Vimal Kumar, who is in Sri Lanka to cover the series, posted the pictures of Gill with Kohli and Rohit, and revealed that the youngster asked for some helpful tips to make an impact.

India are aiming to avoid their first bilateral ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka since 1997. India had won each of their last bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka before the start of the ongoing series, however the streak was broken after the first match ended in a tie and Sri Lanka won the second by 32 runs.
