After India qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 round, reports emerged that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan would be sent back to India after the end of the US leg with the match against Canada on Saturday, June 15.
Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed travelled with the Indian team as reserve players for the T20 World Cup 2024. Sending a replacement from India in case of any injury would have taken time, and to save the team from any such unwanted situation, the BCCI had sent all the four players with the 15-member squad.

With the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 ending for India on Saturday, opener Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan are likely to be sent back. India already have a backup opener in Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Also, the Super 8 matches will be played in the West Indies where spinners are expected to dominate. India already have four pacers including Hardik Pandya in the main squad. Avesh Khan can join Shubman Gill on the flight back to India.
To provide variety in the net sessions with left-arm pace, Khaleel Ahmed will be there with the Indian team. Rinku Singh is also expected to stay with the Indian team for the rest of their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
However, reports have emerged that Shubman Gill's departure has also to do something with his disciplinary issues. As per the reports, the management wasn't happy with Shubman Gill's attitude as he kept his focus on his personal projects, and did not show interest in travelling or practicing with the team.
Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed were present in the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium to support India in their match against Pakistan on June 9. However, Shubman Gill was nowhere to be seen.
The reports added that everything is not fine between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. The youngster has unfollowed the Indian team captain on Instagram.
MyKhel got in touch with a source close to BCCI who declared the reports untrue. He confirmed that no disciplinary action was taken on the Punjab batter.
“Contrary to media reports and social media speculation, there were no disciplinary issues involving Shubman Gill. The opening batter and fast bowler Avesh Khan are expected to return to India after the group stage of the T20 World Cup in the USA, but this decision is not related to any disciplinary matters. The reports floating in the media a baseless,” a source close to BCCI cofirmed informed MyKhel.
