Shubman Gill to lead Fazilka Falcons in Punjab T20 League, reckons platform for youth bigger than winning Trophy

The stage is set for the 2026 edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League, with the tournament scheduled to begin on August 30 at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Chandigarh. Six teams will battle for the title, while the competition will also provide Punjab's emerging cricketers with an important platform to gain experience and attract wider attention.

India captain Shubman Gill will lead the Fazilka Falcons, bringing international experience to a squad featuring several promising young players. Gill is looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with the next generation of Punjab cricketers.

"I am very excited to lead the Fazilka Falcons. We have a very talented and exciting group of players, and I am really looking forward to working with the team. It will be a great opportunity for all of us to learn from each other and play some good cricket," Gill said.

The Indian captain also acknowledged the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for creating a competitive environment where young players can test themselves against quality opposition.

"I would like to thank the Punjab Cricket Association for organising the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League. It is a very important platform for young and talented cricketers from Punjab. They get the opportunity to perform against quality players, gain experience and show what they can do. Hopefully, many of them can use this tournament as a stepping stone to bigger opportunities," he added.

Gill also wants to use his experience to help younger teammates develop their game, particularly when it comes to handling pressure and making decisions during matches.

"For young players, it is important to believe in their ability and stay calm when they are under pressure. I want to help them understand the game better, whether it is about reading a situation, making decisions or handling pressure," Gill said.

While lifting the trophy remains a key objective, Gill believes the tournament's true impact will be reflected in the progress of its young players.

"Obviously, winning the trophy is something we will be aiming for, but for me, success will also be about seeing young players from our team grow during the tournament," he concluded.
