Shubman Gill to lead young India squad for Tour of Zimbabwe; Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Tushar Deshpande get maiden call-up

The Senior Men's Selection Committee on Monday (June 24) announced the 15-member squad for India's upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Young India cricketer Shubman Gill has been appointed the captain of the squad, which consists of young cricketers.

Young players such as Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy, Abhishek Sharma and Tushar Deshpande have been given a chance in the squad, full of promising young talents. They had an impressive show in IPL 2024 and have been rewarded for their performance.

The Indian cricket team is set to visit Harare in the first week of July to engage in a five-match T20I series against the hosts. This series promises to be a thrilling contest as both teams look to assert their dominance in the shortest format of the game.

Senior cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav, who all are part of the ongoing T20 World Cup, have been rested.

The squad includes only two players from the main lineup of the T20 World Cup: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. Additionally, Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who are reserves for the T20 World Cup, have also been selected for the tour.
