Six-hitting hero Grant Elliott says sorry, will miss sister's wedding for WC final

Auckland, March 25: After taking New Zealand to their maiden World Cup final, six-hitting hero Grant Elliott has revealed he will miss his sister's wedding as he prepares for the big day on Sunday in Melbourne.

Elliott, born in Johannesburg, put New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2015 final after smashing a six off the penultimate ball of the match from Dale Steyn in the semi-final yesterday (March 24) at Eden Park. (De Villiers, Morkel in tears)

Speaking after the match, Elliott said his family was at the stadium to watch his most-famous ODI knock of 84 not out. When asked whether his six was the most famous shot in New Zealand's cricket history, he said, "I don't know. I'm quite a level sort of person, and I like to stay out of the media to be honest."

He continued, "I guess it'll sink in. I think after the World Cup I'll maybe look back and sort of reassess and savor those moments. My family was here and my sister has got a wedding on Friday. Unfortunately I'll miss her wedding. If you can put that in the press and say I'm sorry, I saw her earlier, she was pretty happy for me, but yeah, I'm going to have to give her a special gift, I think."

The 36-year-old Elliott and his team-mates will now wait for the second semi-final between India and Australia on Thursday (March 26) to know who they play on Sunday.
