Sri Lanka A and Hong Kong are yet to meet each other in List A matches, with Sunday’s clash being the first time that these two teams will meet on the cricket pitch.
After winning all but one List A ODI match against South Africa A, Sri Lanka were expected to start their Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 journey on a positive note. However, the Lankans fell to a narrow 11-run loss to Afghanistan A, failing to chase down a target of 167.
Despite a half-century from Nuwanidu Fernando, Sri Lanka A could only manage 155 runs in 19.3 overs before losing all ten wickets, falling just short of Afghanistan A’s total.
Hong Kong’s recent record has been mixed as well. The Associate Nation two of their last four T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A matches, losing one match to Malaysia and the other ending with no result.
However, the underdogs somewhat expectedly started their Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 journey with a loss, falling to a five-wicket defeat by Bangladesh on the opening day.
