SL v IND 2024: Hitman Rohit Sharma on cusp of achieving 'Four Milestones' in ODI Series Decider

SL vs IND 2024: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been in terrific form in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He played the game with intent and his aggressive stroke-play yielded him good returns.

The senior pro struck two quick fifties in the first two ODIs, which helped India get off to a perfect start. Despite Rohit's quick fifties, India are yet to get off the mark in the series, with the first game ending in a tie and the second game going in favour of the hosts.

Rohit Sharma

As the three-match ODI series heads into the decisive third and final game, Rohit Sharma will be eyeing multiple feats. The experienced campaigner is on the brink of achieving some significant milestones and let's take a look at all of them below.

1) Could Reach 2,000 Runs Against Sri Lanka

With 1,986 runs against Sri Lanka, Rohit is just 14 runs away from becoming the sixth batter to score 2,000 or more ODI runs against the island nation. Sachin Tendulkar (3,113 runs), Virat Kohli (2,618 runs), MS Dhoni (2,383 runs), Inzamam-ul-Haq (2,265 runs) and Saeed Anwar (2,198 runs) are the others who scored the most runs against Sri Lanka.

2) 2 Sixes Away from Surpassing Chris Gayle

Known for his six-hitting prowess, Rohit Sharma is just two sixes away from surpassing Chris Gayle’s tally of 331 sixes in ODIs. Gayle currently holds the second spot on the all-time list, only behind Shahid Afridi’s record of 351 sixes. With 330 sixes to his name, Hitman is poised to leapfrog Gayle and secure the second spot in this elite list.

3) Closing in on Rahul Dravid's ODI Run Tally

Rohit Sharma recently surpassed MS Dhoni’s tally of 10,773 ODI runs and now has 10,831 runs to his name, placing him fifth on the list of India’s highest ODI run-scorers. The senior pro is only 59 runs away from overtaking Rahul Dravid’s total of 10,889 runs, which would move him into fourth place among India’s all-time ODI run-getters.

4) A Fifty Away from edging past Desmond Haynes

Rohit Sharma is tied with West Indies legend Desmond Haynes, with both having scored 57 fifties in ODIs. A single fifty in the third ODI would see the Indian skipper surpass Haynes, which would add another feather to his already illustrious career.
