SL vs IND 2024: Three India bowlers who could come out on top in Sri Lanka ODIs

SL vs IND 2024: The T20I series between Sri Lanka and India was done and dusted, with the visitors inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on the hosts in Pallekele. The cricketing episode shifts towards the ODI series, with the first game, slated to be played on August 2, Friday in Colombo.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the ODI set-up whereas the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. Indian think-tank will expect their bowlers to come up trumps in the ODI series.

Kuldeep Yadav

History tells us that the venue has enough for the bowlers to cause troubles to the batters. Both spinners and pacers will have their say in the series. Let's take a look at the three Indian bowlers who are expected to shine in the 50-over assignment.

1. Mohammed Siraj: The Hyderabad-born fast bowler might not have packed a punch in the T20I series as he took just one wicket but he is certain to thrive in the ODI series, given his ability to generate pace and movement, particularly with the new ball. The venue often offers some early assistance to seamers. Meanwhile, Siraj's knack for extracting swing could ruffle the top-order batters' feathers. He has taken seven wickets in this venue, including his match-winning 6/21 spell against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 final.

2. Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep Yadav is expected to succeed in the Colombo track since it assists spinners. He is more likely to weave the magic with the ball in the middle overs, which will be critical in rupturing partnerships and controlling the flow of runs. He could trouble the Sri Lankan batters, courtesy of his potential to turn the ball both ways. The chinaman bowler has done superbly well at this venue, picking up 14 wickets in 7 games at an economy of 4.32.

3. Axar Patel: Axar Patel is expected to bring value to the team since he poses a dual threat to the team with his left-arm spin and lower-order batting. He hasn't had much success as a bowler in Sri Lanka as he accounted for 7 dismissals in 6 matches. However, he has shown vast improvement as a player in recent times. He is expected to tie down the opposition with his disciplined lines and lengths.
