Sri Lanka, having opted to bat first, struggled significantly on a challenging pitch. The South African bowlers capitalised on the conditions, reducing Sri Lanka to 77 all out in 19.1 overs.

Anrich Nortje was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four wickets and wreaking havoc among the Lankan batting order. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj supported him well, picking up two wickets each, while the Sri Lankan batsmen were unable to find any rhythm.

The innings started with a promising tone as the Lankan openers sought to establish a solid foundation. However, the fall of Pathum Nissanka, who edged Ottniel Baartman to third man, initiated a collapse. Kusal Mendis tried to break the shackles but was dismissed after scoring just 11.

From there, it was a procession of wickets as Sri Lanka failed to form any meaningful partnerships. Captain Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, and Dasun Shanaka were the only batsmen to reach double figures, highlighting the collective batting failure.

Chasing a small target, South Africa had a shaky start. Nuwan Thushara struck early, removing Reeza Hendricks for 4. Aiden Markram, leading South Africa for the first time in an ICC event, managed 12 before being caught behind off Dasun Shanaka.

Quinton de Kock provided some stability with a 20-run knock but was soon dismissed by Hasaranga. At 58/4, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller steadied the innings. Klaasen remained unbeaten on 19, and Miller's confident boundary sealed the win.

The South African bowlers' performance was remarkable, with Nortje's pace and accuracy dismantling the Lankan lineup. Rabada's and Maharaj's contributions ensured there was no let-up in pressure, and Baartman's debut wicket set the tone for the innings.

In contrast, Sri Lanka's batsmen appeared tentative and struggled to handle the varied South African attack, failing to apply themselves on a tricky surface. This victory gives South Africa a strong start in the T20 World Cup, boosting their confidence for upcoming matches. Conversely, Sri Lanka will need to regroup quickly and address their batting frailties to remain competitive in the tournament.

The encounter at Nassau Cricket Stadium highlighted South Africa's potent bowling and depth in batting, earmarking them as strong contenders for the title.
